#12  Clemson

The Tigers have the best quarterback, the two best running backs, and the top wide receiver in the ACC. On paper an offensive explosion should happen, but the lack of experience on the offensive line is the top concern for Clemson in 2008. First year starters will have to step up to the big time in order to continue the success that coach Tommy Bowden has brought to Clemson. While the Tigers have not yet played in an ACC Championship game, they are too good this year to not reach the title game. Fans have long awaited a trip to a BCS bowl, if it doesn't happen this year, it just might not ever happen.

  • Star Player: Clemson has the luxury of having two great running backs in C.J. Spiller and James Davis. They are the best duo in college football and have combined to rush for 3,957 yards and score 46 touchdowns the past two seasons. Quarterback Cullen Harper led the ACC in passing efficiency last year and he has an amazing receiver in Aaron Kelly to find in the end zone. Kelly is on the verge of breaking a school record for career touchdown catches as he has 16 going into the season. The record is 18 and was set in 1951 making it the oldest record in Clemson football history.

  • Outlook:
The first game of the season can help Clemson prove they belong as a national championship contender. The game is in Atlanta against Alabama and will be a big test for the Tigers. If they can get past Alabama, that should get the Tigers headed in the right direction towards an ACC Championship and BCS bowl berth.
